Every address has a page. Cite the page.

The interactive tracer on the homepage shows a result behind a #fragment, which no crawler, agent or citation can address. The permalink form below is a real document: one sentence that answers the question, the dated route toward the origin set, the tier and population standing, the data-release stamp, and the same facts in JSON and Markdown.

The URL pattern

Page
https://degreesofsatoshi.com/degree/<address>/
Markdown
https://degreesofsatoshi.com/degree/<address>/index.md — or send Accept: text/markdown
JSON
https://degreesofsatoshi.com/degree/<address>/index.json — or send Accept: application/json, or call https://dfs-api.pat-kingsley.workers.dev/api/v1/degree/<address> directly

Any mainnet address form is accepted (legacy, script-hash, native SegWit, Taproot). The service normalises the spelling and the page redirects to the canonical form, so one address has exactly one URL. An address with no on-chain history returns a 404 that still says so.

How to cite a result

Degrees of Satoshi. “<address>: degree N.” Data release <artifact_version>, methodology <version>. Retrieved <date>. https://degreesofsatoshi.com/degree/<address>/

Every result carries its data-release and methodology identifiers, and every JSON response carries a permalink field and a Link: <…>; rel="cite-as" header, so a figure quoted today can be reproduced after a later release changes it.

What a degree is, and is not

The early-mining anchor set. An address record's degree is the fewest eligible directed transaction-graph hops to any member of this set. It counts directed transaction hops; it is not ownership, identity, contact, or literal descent of individual coins, and no balance is shown anywhere on the site. The full rules are in the methodology.
