Key facts for Supply caps: limiting deposits into a lending reserve

ScopeAave reserve caps limit the total amount supplied or borrowed.[1]
ConfigurationCaps are market-specific and can change through governance.[1]
LiquidityWithdrawal availability is a separate condition from the supply cap.[2]
01

Read remaining capacity in the correct units

If a hypothetical reserve has a cap of 1,000,000 token units and 950,000 counted against it, the simple headroom is 50,000 units. A dashboard’s exact counted amount must follow the deployed implementation.

This is an exposure limit, not a promise that the token is worth one dollar or that every existing unit is immediately available in cash.

02

A valid wallet can still be unable to add supply

A deposit can fail because the reserve has reached its cap even if the user has enough tokens and allowance. Account authorization and market capacity are separate checks.

The cap may change before the transaction executes. An earlier interface quote is an observation, not a reservation of remaining capacity.

03

A cap controls size rather than asset quality

Limiting supplied exposure can be one risk-management measure. It does not eliminate oracle, collateral, contract or governance risk within the allowed amount.

Compare the cap with the asset’s liquidity and other reserve parameters. A larger cap is a configuration choice, not an independent endorsement.

Direct answers

Questions people ask

Does reaching a supply cap stop everyone from withdrawing?

A cap concerns supply capacity. Withdrawals have separate liquidity and collateral conditions; reaching the cap alone is not a statement that withdrawals are unavailable.

The answer and key facts have stable claim links. These records retain the scope and qualification when reused.

A supply cap limits how much of an asset may be supplied to a lending reserve under its configured rules. It can restrict growth of exposure to that asset. It does not mean the same amount is idle and withdrawable, and it does not guarantee that existing suppliers cannot lose money.
